Bob Hope and WWII: A Touch of Home

3 minutes

A legendary movie star and comedian, Bob Hope was beloved by generations of service members for his work entertaining the troops. Explore his unique role during World War II with a moving six-part video series made from archival footage. The second clip in our video series looks at Hope's journeys across the globe during World War II as he brought some humor and a reminder of home to the battlefront. What drove a successful entertainer like him to perform for the troops? Perhaps it was the unique challenge it presented: Could he make them laugh?

This video is presented in conjunction with our exhibition So Ready for Laughter: Bob Hope and World War II, which was organized by the National WWII Museum in New Orleans and supported by the Bob & Dolores Hope Foundation.
