When did war first start? Will human nature always doom us to fighting one another? Renowned scholar and author Margaret MacMillan looks at the ways in which war has influenced human society: not only by shaping world history, but by playing a role in molding social and political institutions.

Margaret MacMillan is a professor of international history at Oxford, where she is also the warden of St. Antony’s College. She is the author of War: How Conflict Shaped Us. Philip Bobbitt (moderator) is a leading constitutional theorist and Herbert Wechsler Professor of Jurisprudence at Columbia Law School.
